Bed Bugs

Bed bugs are 3/16 of an inch long. They are brown to reddish in color, and have broadly oval and flatted bodies.

The number of bedbug cases has risen in recent years, in part due to an increase in international travel. Other countries have not eradicated bedbugs, so they are now being transported back into the United States. When you combine with this with the relative mobility of the United Sates populate, the infestation has grown greater and more widespread.

Prevention:
When traveling, inspect clothing, travel bags, and bedding for any signs of bed bugs.

Habitat:
Bed bugs are typically associated with humans and their beds. They live in mattresses, hiding from light during the day and emerging at night to feed on hosts. However, insects may also be found living in any of the following hiding places in addition to mattresses:

  • Box springs
  • Headboards
  • Footboards
  • Bed frames
  • Bedside tables
