Teacher / Parent Information

Understanding more about the world around them helps children to know their place in the world and more about how the whole ecosystem works.

At Cook’s we understand the need for everyone to know more about the insect world as well as other wildlife and all of creation. To support this, we offer several opportunities for parents and teachers to help their children learn more about the world in which they live.

First, and foremost, Cook’s Pest Control is proud to offer the Cook’s Natural Science Museum as a showcase of natural science including not only bugs and insects, but also examples of mammals, reptiles, birds, sea life, fossils and more. Entrance to the museum is always FREE and you and your family can visit any time. Schools have been offering field trips to the museum for years as a highly educational experience for their students. Parents will enjoy seeing the wonder of life displayed as their children “oooh” and “aaaah” as they view the exhibits and hands-on displays. The current museum will close the end of June 2016, and in 2017, the Cook Museum of Natural Science will open in downtown Decatur, AL.

Teachers: Plan a curriculum section on the study of wildlife and include the Museum in your study. Pre-visit the museum yourself to see what all it has to offer. You will be surprised if you have not visited before, or if it has been a while, as we change things on a regular basis.

Parents: Include the Cook’s Natural Science Museum on a family outing, a trip through Decatur, or just as a Saturday or Sunday afternoon treat. The Museum is open Monday through Saturday, 9am-12pm and 1pm-5pm and Sunday 2pm-5pm. The museum is closed only 4 days each year:  New Years Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Kid’s Corner: Be sure to check out our Kid’s Corner page. We plan to regularly update this page with ideas, downloads, activities and more to help your children learn while having fun!
