Identification
Sow Bugs and Pill Bugs, known commonly as Roly-Polies, are never more than 3/4” in length and their bodies are oval with a hollow underside. The head and the body is covered by overlapping plates giving it its armored look. Sow Bugs have seven pairs of legs. The Pill Bug can roll itself into a ball and is often called a Roly-Poly in some areas.

Detection
Large infestations may be found in basements or in organic areas such as gardens, potted plants, and mulch.

Impact
Sow Bugs and Pill Bugs may invade homes during times of drought and excessive moisture. Their presence is not only unsightly; they are a nuisance when found in large numbers indoors.

Prevention
Clutter around the home should be removed, such as leaves, grass clippings, mulch, boards, etc. For long-term results, basements and crawlspaces should be well ventilated.
